| Children of Lir |
|
| King Lairgnean came to take the wonderful singing swans from the care of a hermit saint for his new wife Deocha. Their marriage had however ended the nine hundred year spell put upon the children of Lir by their jealous stepmother Aiofe. She had turned them into swans. When the spell was broken they were transformed back into their human form but by now were three old men and an old woman. They were baptised by the saint but died. They were buried in each others arms. "Lay us in one grave together as we were many a night on the winter seas of Moyle." |
