| Connla |
|
| Connla was the son of Conn, the Great King of Ireland. One day the King, his son and their attendants were on the Hill of Uisneach when a beautiful lady from the Otherworld approached them. Only Connla and his druid could see and hear her when she called to Connla to meet her at a place known as Magh Meall. The druid sang a spell against her which caused her to disappear but before she went she threw an apple to Connla. For a whole month Connla ate nothing but one bite of the apple. Then one day, as Connla and his father walked along the beach, the lady from the Otherworld returned . On the shore was a boat of glass and she persuaded Connla, under the spell of the apple, to go away with her to the Kingdom under the sea. The King was desolate at the thought of losing his beloved son and pleaded with him to stay. The druids were unable to sing against the spell that the lady had cast and Connla left forever with the woman that he loved. "My life is with you in this world and in yours beyond the sea." |
