Mermaids
We are told that a man once saw a beatiful maiden fast asleep on a beach. Near her was a cloak which she had lain aside. The man approached and picked up the cloak which had magical properties. She then came under his power. She therefore went with him to his home and, after a time, she agreed to marry him. Time passed and they had two children and in all that time he kept the cloak hidden from her. Then one day she found the cloak hidden in a chest and then she remembered not only what the cloak but also who she really was. She was a mermaid and she belonged in the sea. She waited for her opportunity and left the man and their children and returned to her sisters in the sea. Certain families are said to be descendants of these children since many of them are born with webbed toes.
